Companies have logos so it’s easy for viewers to identify the brand. Logos often describe the brand and reflect a message.
Apple is one of the most successful brands in the world and the apple logo is one of the most iconic as its easily recognised by everyone. The logo is very simple as it is a silhouette of an apple with a bite. The bite in the logo is significant to the design as Steve Jobs thought that without the bite the apple would look like a cherry. The simplicity of this logo makes it successful as it is an apple which represents the brand clearly and it makes a clear connection to the brand.
A logo which I personally think was unsuccessful was the London 2012 Olympics logo. Surprisingly, until recently I figured out that the shapes represented 2012 before I thought it was just random shapes. The logo was also in different colours which again I didn’t find out until recently that the certain colours represented the different sectors of sport. The logo was unclear which made it harder for people to understand. Besides the design, it has the Olympic rings and London in the logo which clearly shows the logo is advertising the London Olympics.
My personal favourite logos are the Adidas logo, Stussy logo and Versace logo.
The Adidas logo is 3 stripes which are displayed on all their products. These signature stripes are significant to the brand as it shows clearly that the product is theirs and it is very recognisable. I personally like this logo as it is really simple yet so effective.
Stussy have 2 logos, one is 2 S’s overlapping and the other is Shawn Stussy’s signature. I really like both logos as they’re really simple yet distinctive to the company. I enjoy the unique typography of the signature logo as it’s got a personal touch.
The Versace logo is a line drawing of Medusa. It uses basic and minimal colour with basic typography which works hand in hand with the logo. The line drawing and the detail of the logo is what catches my attention. It is also a very recognisable logo as its unique which sets it apart from other logos.
These logos have inspired me to start thinking about what I want to include in my logo and how I envision it.
