2030MAPA – 1d) Contact List

“Contact list of professionals you have identified as being potentially useful for your future career and that you have approached as part of your research into work experience.”

Aakash (Ash) Tailor
Freelance Cinematographer
Website: http://www.ashtailor.co.uk/

LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ashthought/

Ash Tailor is my brother and is a cinematographer. He previously worked at UAL: London College of Fashion as a DOP creating short films, filming fashion shows, and making corporate documentaries. His success in the industry has taken him from London to Toronto, Canada where he does freelance work. On the side, he makes YouTube videos about the latest tech and he integrates his cinematography work into these videos to give a more visually pleasing piece. He has also created many short films, one of which he entered in the ‘Moment Invitational’ film festival.
I chose Ash as a contact as he is very experienced in the field I want to go into. He can provide and teach me the skills needed to become a cinematographer, how to edit the visuals and to also obtain my own style of work and film. As he is a part of the YouTube community he has many people he collaborates with therefore working with him would introduce me to other cinematographers. This would help me gain more contacts as well as learn different skills and styles from them.  It also gives me a greater opportunity for finding work within the field I want to go into and possibly travel.

Merchant Cantos

“We are built for the fast-moving world of our clients: a unique mix of thinkers, designers, developers and filmmakers.”
I got in contact with Chari Wilson who works at Merchant Cantos. I emailed inquiring about a 2-week internship they offer which I was really interested in. The internship gives young people experience in the industry by working in teams to complete an assigned project. This internship will give me valuable experience about working in a professional media environment and creating high-quality content. I will also get to work amongst professionals in the company and hopefully gain contacts for more future experience.

Corin Long
Head of Video Production at Team Spirit
LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/corin-long-18a62a12/?locale=de_DE
Directing Showreel: https://vimeo.com/5388499

I got in contact with Corin Long through a family connection. Corin is the head of video production at Team Spirit which is a marketing and advertising agency. He has previously been a producer and director at ESA Film Limited and has also worked for BBC News producing and directing prime time TV trails. I got in contact with him as he can provide me with industry experience in advertising, editing, directing and producing.  I spoke with him about potentially gaining work experience or a possible internship. It would be beneficial to get experience with him as I can gain knowledge on roles I am unfamiliar with such as directing and producing. This will help my employability as it will market me with more media-related skills. Currently, there isn’t anything available at the company but when a place arises I will be notified.

Simon Sukonik
Project Manager at Viacom International Media Networks
LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/simonsukonik/

Corin introduced me to Simon Sukonik who works at Viacom which is a media company that is home to well-known media brands such as Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and many more. I got a chance to speak with Simon briefly and ask important questions about advice on how to get into the industry and if in the future they can potentially provide me with a job/intern opportunity. Simon gave me guidance and knowledge of how to make myself employable in the media industry and how to stand out from everyone else.

Stiletto’s Network
Indigo & Gill

Stilettos Network hold events to endorse campaigns such as body positivity and other issues. I have done freelance filming for them in the past for two of their events to document and help promote. These events were ‘Embrace’ and ‘The Black International Film Festival’. Myself and other students I worked with have stayed in contact with the Stilettos Network as there could be possible opportunities for us to film for them again.  This experience taught me how to make quick decisions about filming and to capture valuable and useful content to use for the final videos.
